What if I miss a technical workshop?
If you cannot make a certain technical workshop you were looking to participate in, find all previous materials under the courses tab of our website. Here, the materials will be posted for you to use at your own pace. If you have any questions regarding the material or steps, please feel free to reach out to our Directors of Analytics (information found under the contact page)
Will I be penalized for missing a meeting?
Nope! Though we encourage members to participate in all meetings to get the most benefit, we understand things happen. You will not be penalized for missing a meeting under any circumstances.
What are my dues used for?
Though we are sensitive to affordability for our members, we do ask for $30 per year from our members. These dues help us to put together events such as our annual case competition, where we host both a networking lunch and provide a cash prize. Additionally, your dues allow us to put together company visits, where we offer gas reimbursement, if necessary.
What does BAS do?
BAS is a new student organization dedicated to bringing technical resources, conversations, and skillsets forward to members. We host two different meeting types - our guest speaker events and technical workshops. Guest speaker events consist of industry-relevant professionals discussing different technical and professional topics. Our technical workshops consist of beginner-friendly exercises designed to introduce members to new tools. Additionally, BAS offers annual case competitions that mirror typical technical interviews. Participants are given a dataset and a prompt, and are then able to present their findings to a panel of judges. Finally, BAS offers site visits to different companies to allow members the chance to tour, meet the HR team, and get a real-life feel for the corporate environment.
What do I need to do to become a member?
Becoming a member of BAS is simple! We only ask that you submit your dues by the specified date. Dues can be submitted on a semester ($15) or yearly ($30) basis.
What if I want to join past the dues deadline?
As a new organization on campus, we want to grow our community as much as possible! We welcome all eager members, no matter the timeline of the semester. If you are looking to join BAS as a paid member after the deadline, please email BAS’ President, Emily Idasek (eeidase@ilstu.edu)
